The Amalfi Coast

Positano

The Amalfi Coast situated on the southern versant of the Sorrentine Peninsula, is considered and guarded by the UNESCO as an international estate of mankind for the impressiveness of its landscape and for its historical events.
Going along the state road 163, you leave behind Sorrento and you find the pearls of the Amalfi Coast. The first pearl is Positano: its small houses set one against the other seem as if they are glued to the rocky cliff, small roads bring You into a fairytale and colored world like the famous “Moda Positano” clothes.

Ravello (Amalfi coast)

Proceeding along the winding road which unravels through deep cliffs poised over the fishing villages, You reach Vettica Maggiore and Praiano, defended for over 5 centuries by the Tower of Praia, one of the many along the Coast, built to guard against the assaults of pirates and corsairs from the sea.
Still continuing, after crossing the amazing fiord of Furore with its fishermen’s coves and herbarium, at Conca dei Marini it is unacceptable not to stop for an excursion to the famous Grotta of the Emerald, discovered in 1932 by a fisherman of the area.

Curve after curve finally You reach Amalfi, the ancient and mighty Maritime Republic, whose ships once returned from the East full of spices, perfumes and precious fabrics. Beyond the cathedral of Sant ’Andrea, going up along the Valley of the Mills, You find the remains of the ancient paper mills where the famous, and yet today, very researched “hand-made paper of Amalfi” was produced.

Amalfi

A bit more above the sea level is situated Ravello famous for its Musical festival which every summer fills of notes the luxuriant gardens of Villa Rufolo.

Then there is Maiori, where Rossellini directed the great Anna Magnani in the film “Amore”. Still there is the maritime village of Cetara, the town of the tunny-fishing nets and the straining of the anchovies, to conclude with the very colored artistic ceramics of Vietri sul Mare.
